Rare white Chinon from chenin blanc, with fruit, wax, and stones.
This estate is easily one of the finest in the Loire Valley's Chinon, and we drink and enjoy their wines year after year. This was one of the first wineries Nate ever visited in France, andepitomizes the sort of estate that we wanted tofeature at Piquette. Bernard Baudry founded the domaine in the 1970s, and it is now in the capable hands of his son Mathieu. They focus on a range of single-vineyard wines on different terroirs, all farmed organically, and the winemaking is simple and clean, letting the character of the different sites come through. In addition to the reds they are best known for, they also make a tiny bit of two white wines from chenin blanc. This one is from younger vines on clay and limestone, farmed organically, and was fermented naturally and aged in big old oak. Expect zippy lemon and pear with white flowers and beeswax, and a taut stony palate with a touch of richness.
