Jazzy, perfumed, ripe-but-balanced new wave shiraz from a young winemaker making waves in the Adelaide Hills.
Adelaide Hills, Australia
Charlotte Hardy is one of the leading lights of a group of winemakers in South Australia that are changing people's ideas about what kinds of wines the area can produce. She makes wines that capture all of the sunny fruit of the area without any heaviness or makeup fromtoo much extraction or oak. This is semillon - one of Hardy's specialties - from Adelaide Hills, fermented and aged in French oak with plenty of lees contact. It is lemony, gently herbal and a bit waxy and nutty on the nose. It starts out a little broad and appley on the finish, before tightening up with zingy acidity and mineral freshness.
