Wow, this is really good minimalist pinot noir from a tiny new producer in Baden, Germany, with super-pure red fruit, iron, old flowers, and some stuff you found in the woods.

Badischer Landwein, Germany

Wasenhaus is a small winery in Baden started recently by two young Germans who have built pretty impressive resumes growing grapes and making wine in Burgundy (Domaine de Montille, Pierre Morey, Domaine Leflaive, etc.). Pinot noir/spätburgunder is their specialty, but they also do an excellent job with a couple of local white varieties. This wine was made with a little bit of whole cluster, a little bit of oak, a little bit of sulfur, and a whole lot of care. It's really expressive and juicy without being the least bit blowsy, with perfectly-ripe red fruit, some dried flowers and pine needles, and a mineral touch. The palate has just-so acidity and gentle tannins, and off-the-charts chuggability. This'd probably age a bit, we suppose, but good luck with that.
